Although the exact beginnings of Blackjack is still under debate, researchers believe that is most likely started in French casinos during the 1700s. The French cards are called Vingt-et-Un which means 'Twenty One' but there is another theory that suggests that Romans are the one who invented the game as Romans love gambling and it is believed that they played this game using wooden blocks. You can read more here.
I tried finding some images that can help us visualize the cards that the French and Romans used but I was unable to find one, but I only found the translation of the wordย Vingt-et-Un.

Wow this was really informative _ecvj. Enjoyed reading about how Blackjack began. Hoping to see more posts like this to learn more about the history of other games
Thanks for this @evcj_ Blackjack is my favorite casino game and I am always interested in the history behind it. Can you imagine the Romans playing this with blocks all those years ago? It reminds me of the Chinese first inventing football centuries ago. There is no concrete proof of this either. Great post thanks.
Interesting topic; thanks for sharing this information with us!
This is interesting. It appears that the French may have pioneered a lot of gambling games? Black jack is such a cool game. I like it!ย
That's an interesting anecdote. French had quite an interest in setting up these games. Although casino itself originated in Italy, but French definitely added their mix.ย

@evcj_ It was a great read. There are no concrete proofs on the origin of Blackjack, but imagining the romans playing back then sounds cool.ย
