There has recently been a murder-suicide linked to a casino in Reno. The people of the city are shocked about this and there is a real concern about the rising crime numbers related to land-based casinos. Reno police are not releasing much information about the incident as yet. A man was found dead in his hotel room after visiting the Reno casino it seems. Read more about this here.
I know that there have been other posts on this forum related to land-based casino crimes and incidents that have resulted in deaths. It is a real tragedy as far as I am concerned and the casinos should do more about the security of car parks etc. They seem more worried about installing facial recognition cameras at the moment ๐
What do you think can be done to curb the rising crime figures related to online casinos? Of course, the casinos cannot be held responsible for incidents that occur in hotel rooms (unless they are part of the casino complex) but there needs to be a rethink on safety at US casinos in general.ย
I know that crimes occur in other countries too. There was a spate of nasty attacks near London casinos a few years back.ย
Oh my god! That's tragic! I imagine that land-based casinos can fall prey to predators. People pretending to chill and have a good time but also are keeping an eye at players or even just scouting for the next target. One way that these establishments can protect their patrons is by educating and reminding them on the importance of staying vigilant both in and outside casinos. While this is not the most productive approach as no one wants to be anywhere they feel like they are prey, I think its a logical thing to do. You can never be too safe.ย

@divine I agree with your suggestions. I have seen people in land-based casinos waving a lot of chips or money about because they have had a big win. Of course they are going to be excited - and maybe even a little drunk! But this is just asking for trouble. You just never know who is watching in these casinos.
Players need to be even more careful when they step outside the casino. The person who died in the Reno incident was probably followed to his hotel. This is one of the reasons that I don't drink much (if at all) when I visit land-based casinos. You always need to have your wits about you. If a thief has been watching you in the casino then they are most likely to make their move when you leave the building.
Also, people should be encouraged to go to land-based casinos with at least another person. Make an agreement with your friend or friends to take care of each other all the way home.ย
This is quite sad, especially to lose one's life around circumstances such as these. Ina addition to facial recognition and CCTVs, as well as well lit parking areas, maybe hiring of more security personnel and an awareness campaign on safety tips as it applies when visiting casinos. We don't necessarily know the nuances of this particular scenario but im sure the casino and authorities would analyse the situation to prevent it from repeating itself again cause it negative pr which is bad for business.
@graham Yeah! Mostl likely followed , that's why people need to be aware of safety and security tips especially around this sort of environment. I remember reading somewhere its always good to vary your route and routines so you don't get easily studied and followed cause you stick to a particular routine. And also to check your surroundings before driving in or getting into your apartment. But the truth is that most times we tend to forget these things for the 0.01% chance we're going to need them for.
