The winner of one of the two multi-million dollar lottery jackpot tickets bought at the same Encino store has been disclosed almost seven months later. In a press release, the California Lottery announced that F. Lahijani won half of the $395 million Mega Millions Lottery jackpot. No further details were provided.
Both winning tickets were sold on December 8 at the same Chevron gas station in Encino, located at 18081 Ventura Boulevard, and both tickets matched all six numbers to win the jackpot.
The California lottery gives a big commission for the retailers
Retailers receive a commission for each winning ticket they sell. According to the California Lottery, any ticket worth over $1 million earns a bonus of half a percent of the prize value, up to one million dollars.
For selling the two winning tickets, the fortunate minimart earned a bonus of over $1.9 million—the highest bonus ever awarded. The top sellers of winning lottery tickets between 2021 and 2024 were gas station convenience stores, closely followed by independent convenience stores.
Winners of the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots have one year from the draw date to claim their winnings. The winner of the other winning ticket that was sold that evening has not yet claimed the remaining $197 million in prize money.
