Hi guys,
ย
A lot of people seem to be confused about the green zero in roulette so I will try to explain this in the simplest terms in this post.
Why do casinos like roulette games that have one or two green zeros? Because it increases the house edge of course!
I have spoken with several roulette players who never bet on green zero because they believe that the odds are inferior. But this is not necessarily the case.
If you play American or European then the odds for green zero is 35 to 1. If you want to play green zero then you need to remember that your strategy needs to be different to playing red or black numbers. Outside bets like red or black or odd or even will not payout if the green zero lands. So, you cannot play the popular Martingale strategy with green zero.
The house edge with European roulette is around 3% and this nearly doubles with the introduction of the double zero in the American variant. As there is one additional pocket with the American variant your odds of winning are reduced from 1 in 38 to 1 in 37.
If you like to play the American variant then you can go for a split wager which includes 0 and 00 and this pays out at 17 to 1. Although you have 2 chances to win here the odds are significantly reduced by more than half.
With the European variant there is only one green zero and if you bet on it directly then the odds are 35 to 1. Other bets are possible such as the Trio which includes the zero and 2 adjacent numbers. So, winning combinations would be zero, 2, and 3 and zero, 1 and 2. The odds for landing a Trio are 11 to 1.
Please don't confuse Trio with the "Zero Game" as this involves wagering on numbers close to zero on the wheel like 3, 12. 15, 26, and 32. The Zero Game bet pays out at odds of 4.5 to 1.

Useful Tips about Green Zero
ย
In the European version you can take advantage of "La Partage" or "En Prison" rules. If you want me to write a piece explaining these I will do so.
Outside bets do not win if zero lands
Don't place too many bets on green zero - although the odds are reasonable, it is unlikely that green zero will land many times in a session.
ย
I have tried my best to make this as simple as possible but you need to understand that roulette betting is often a bit complicated. With this info you will be better placed to make the best decision during a game.ย
Let me know if you have any questions and good luck with your roulette bets!

Indeed - the green zero gives them the house edge which is why you cannot beat the roulette wheel! ๐ย
@evcj_ Thanks I will do my best to provide more tips for the forum
I've read the whole thing and that actually makes a LOT of sense. Now it's very clear to me why our local roulette casino operates like this. Thank you sm for the info!
