If you go to any public establishments you'll notice there are certain ones that don't allow video recording in their premises. One of these are physical casinos. What are the reasons? Is it valid?

Most land-based casinos will not allow you to record video or take photographs because they want to ensure player safety and privacy. I actually believe this to be true and one of the few things that casinos do for the right reasons.ย

Imagine that you are playing at a table and winning and behind you someone is shooting a video of you or taking your picture. If this ended up in the wrong hands then you could risk a personal attack as the attacker would believe that you had a lot of money on your person.

Players in a casino have the right to privacy and protection of their personal data. Filming can violate these principles and pose a threat to their safety.

I agree with the other comments that are already present in this thread. Personally, it is to protect the players for privacy and safety reasons. This can be especially dangerous for players who have won something big where other people who were not originally at the casino may come looking for him knowing that he has just received big winnings.

There are many reasons why casinos don't allow video recording. One of the top reasons is the privacy of players and the casino. Many players wouldn't want to go on video as people may not know about their gambling habits. In some cultures, gambling is taboo, and by having their faces on video, they'd face ostracization. The casino, on the other hand, wants privacy to protect their games from proprietary theft.

Thank you for the insightful comments everyone. I enjoyed reading all your answers particularly @graham and @hildaw for the detailed responses. It's always such a joy to learn something new. I agree with everyone though that this is due to privacy for the players and their safety and that is a very legitimate reason to disallow video recording within casinos.ย

Another possible reason could be to prevent cheating. Video recording could possibly be used to somehow capture and analyze gameplay, which could affect the integrity of the games.

Privacy, protection and safety reasons definitely. If I won a lot of money I would not want a recording of it going around which can result into something harmful for me

I know video recording is prohibited on casino floor specifically for privacy and safety of the players. Casinos already have their own cctvs as far as I know so I think if there were ever a need for the recording it could be requested if it was necessary.ย

I know that it is not allowed because to keep everyone safe. Privacy is very important in general so I think in any establishments; not just casino that protection comes first so video recording is not allowed

Recording could mess with game integrity and trust.
