Should online casinos and physical casinos restrict minors from entering or gaining access to online casinos? There are various articles that are available regarding the risk of online casinos for young people; what can physical and online casinos do to prevent this. Should this be an issue or is it irrelevent?
Yes, there should always be an age limit to play at a casino either online or offline. Teenagers think that they know everything bit thinking back to my teenage years I was pretty irresponsible! I started to gamble at 15 which was far too young. I had to hide my activities from my father because he would have gone crazy.
As to what casinos can do to ensure that underage gambling doesn't take place this is easier for land-based casinos than online casinos. Land-based casinos can insist on ID checks (these should be performed for all young people wanting to gain entry). Yes, IDs can be forged so there may be a small number of young players that slip through the net.
Online it is a different story. The casinos usually protect themselves by having gamblers confirm at registration that they are at or above the legal age to gamble in their country. Cryptocurrency has complicated things because a lot of players prefer to be anonymous when they gamble. I guess the casinos could publish articles and press releases about the dangers of underage gambling. That would help a bit but not much.
It depends on the circumstances for me. I remember a few years ago I got a hot tip for a horse from someone my cousin knew (my cousin is a pro gambler). The price of the horse was 16/1 and I decided to put ยฃ100 on it. I was at work so busy with other things and then I suddenly remembered the bet. When I checked my William Hill online account I had won ยฃ1600. I danced round the office like a madman ๐
I play blackjack online sometimes and I am reasonably good at it. If I win a hand then I will say "yes" to myself in a positive way but that's all. When I won on the horse you would think that I had just scored the winning goal in the World Cup final!ย
I used to bet on 4 football teams winning on a Saturday in a multi-bet situation with doubles, trebles, and an accumulator. Often I would break even with this bet but one time all 4 teams won and for a ยฃ55 bet I won about ยฃ600. I placed this bet in a physical betting shop so when I went in to claim my winnings people in the shop all seemed to know about it and were congratulating me - this was very satisfying!
@graham I totally agree. There should be age restriction to these kind of activities. Some of them can have serious impacts on the future.
The age restrictions are essential for me, as well. Although, it is very difficult for the online casinos to control who are the site visitors and if they are even at legal age to play.ย
Yes, it should. The youngest age limit should be 18, but sometimes I feel like your still a kid when you're 18.
This could be done with strict registration conditions.
I believe it should and at 21. Its a very delicate area that can be fun or potentially ruin some. You need that maturity to be able to handle your own and know what it is u r getting into and doing. Some don't seem to get at a young age the severity of the consequences of their actions or they just don't think it through. Experience is definitely needed.
Yes it should. I think the gambling restriction would push for more responsible players as minors who tend to explore early into gambling often run into risks.ย
Age restrictions should be one of the major emphasis in casinos whether physical or online casinos. When you're young you are typically unaware of how huge of a risk gambling can be especially when you lack maturity. Too often especially without someone guiding you there are more risks coming your way rather than benefits.ย
