For those that use land-based casinos, have you encountered facial scanners during your recent visits? I came across a post by someone talking about about these and after they enquired what the scanners were for they were told that they are for checking temperature? What's that about? The scanners are like those found in airports that's what the person said. Are these for monitoring the patrons or what are they for?ย

Yeah Right, I think I have also witnessed these scanneres for few times , and i guess they are gaining more popularity in casinos these day. I guess they are there to make the security system more robust and to identify some high-risk individuals.

I am hearing about this for the first time. I don't think it's for checking temperature at all. Feels like an excuse.. looks more like collecting data on who visits and all

@quantumpulse I have absolutely no idea. The poster mentioned that when they asked what the scanners were they were told they are for checking the temperature in the casino but that sounds weird. lol.

@kayden48 I agree with you! Checking temp sounds like a front and data collection is more like it.

temperature checks? Nah, that's a cover-up. I think they're definitely tracking who walks in and out, collecting data, and keeping tabs on everyone

Interesting - is it to identify banned players?

The casinos are certainly not doing this to check the health of their patrons with a temperature check. They are more likely checking for underage players (this is good), banned players, card counters, and so on. Sharing information with other casinos in the vicinity is also likely. The technology is facial recognition and I wouldn't be surprised if the casinos have this at the front door and scattered around the place as well.

This is a credible article about it https://www.techopedia.com/gambling-guides/casino-facial-recognition-technology

@adtya agreed! Is it legal though? I mean we have CCTV cameras everywhere now and are facial scanners any different. I imagine data collected by the latter is more valuable.

@graham you are right! It could be that they are using it to track patrons. And especially if one has been banned from the premises or are not allowed, the scanner will easily alert the security. It has its positives and negatives. I think it's inevitable that this is where the world is headed. Zero privacy and data collection whether we like it or not.

Itโ€™s interesting to hear about facial scanners popping up in land-based casinos. While they say it's for checking temperature, it makes you wonder if thereโ€™s more to it, like monitoring for security or keeping an eye on whoโ€™s entering.
