Back in 1932, Nevada's state prison had a casino where the prisoners could gamble and take part in various casino games and even make bets on sports. The casino was active from 1932 until 1967 when the new warden made the decision to shut down the casino after 35 years as he considered gambling as "degradation" to the inmates. Do you agree with his decision?ย
No I don't agree that gambling is degradation. We need to know more about this story to assess whether the warden was right or not. How many of the inmates became addicted to gambling through this casino? I am assuming that it was a real casino where small amounts of money changed hands through bets and winnings?
I would like to know the warden's reasoning for believing that the casino was degradation. Surely, there are a lot of other things that happen in prisons that are more worthy of this description. If you have more info on this incident I would love to see it please.
I don't believe that the warden was right to close the casino because it was deemed degrading for the inmates. Surely there are a lot of other things that go on in prisons that are more degrading than casino games? I would like to know a lot more about this case before passing judgment. Did any of the inmates become addicted to playing in the casino?
I am assuming that they played with real money with inmates placing small bets on the casino games? Were there any issues with players losing? How did the inmates get the money to play at the casino? Were there any rules that the inmates had to abide by? How many players could the casino accommodate at one time?ย
Hi there Graham I'm very curious about the particular details as well. I've tried checking out other articles regarding this since I was hoping for specified reasons. So far the articles I've found only provided the information that I've provided above but please feel free to look around. I would love to hear about it in case you do find other details regarding this. So sorry I couldn't provide more. It's really intriguing!
Gambling is definitely not degradation. Unfortunately without more details we cannot discuss this topic that much, but thanks for sharing this entertaining story! Always good to hear something "new" ๐
I think they had to work on it and use in a better way.
Well a casino in a prison setting is definitely a recipe for chaos. Imagine an inmate getting into gambling debts without a valid way of paying it back
I think the warden was wrong about this decision to shut down the casino as I don't see how it can be "degrading" per say. Although I know the risks it can have I also think it has its positives such as its a way to kill time and have inmates remain preoccupied instead of running into trouble.
