On November 5, Missouri will be voting on whether to legalize sports betting. The amendment campaign, "Winning for Missouri Education," is having support from leading mobile sports betting platforms, includingย FanDuel andย DraftKings. If the constitutional amendment passes, the proposed tax rate on sports betting will be 10%, and it will direct generated revenue to public schools and higher education institutions.ย My question is, is sports betting the only viable option for funding education?
I am sure that there are many other ways to raise funds for education but I will say that sports betting is probably already popular in the state so why not legalize it so that the tax can be applied and the education system benefits as a result? If the sports betting takes off in the state then the 10% could amount to a considerable sum. I applaud Missouri for making this decision to support education through sports betting.
Sports betting could help, but itโs definitely not the only option. Itโs cool that the revenue would go to education, but relying on gambling for funding feels like a gamble itself. There should be other, more stable ways to support schools. 😒ย
Always found it strange for such a liberal country how strict some US states are regarding gambling...
@arniebaes I like what you said on the reliance of gambling being a gamble itself. There must be other avenues that Missouri will look to get the necessary funds to support education.
