Looks like everyone's got to pay to play. That 0.4% might not seem enough for the traditional ones, but for those high ranking online casinos; that 1% might sting a bit. As gamblers, we must always keep an eye on how this might affect the games and promotions we love. But one thing is for sure, whether you're rolling a dice in a land-based casino or spinning slots online, the house might not be the only one taking cut from the winnings anymore.ย
@graham they sure will, but I'm hopeful that this government reduces such loopholes.
You can already hear the poshos crying about private schools having to pay VAT but that's another topic altogether 🤣ย
@facebook-tawheedahmad Why do you think this law will affect the bonuses?
@lewisw LOL I don't know about the "posho's" my friend as this is a different world to the one that I live in. For those from outside the UK, "posho's" are those that have had a privileged upbringing where mummy and daddy had a lot of money. This doesn't apply to me as I was brought up in the streets of South London and had to fight for everything that I had.
The problem is that there is likely to be some reluctance to close all of the loopholes as someone will be getting a "back hander" who is in a position of authority. We can always dream though.
oh my lord, why do they have to tax everything!!??
@graham Indeed. As long as gambling winnings remain tax free then I guess that is the main thing 😀
@facebook-skibidirizz If they're using the taxes for better reforms and in improving wanting parts of the economy and society at large, its a good thing. But its a big if, which is why people are averse to these sort of changes.
@ishtar Unfortunately, the UK government is not always completely honest with people so it wouldn't surprise me if any additional taxes were not used for worthy causes. I remember the European Union referendum when Boris Johnson was going around in a bus that had a banner saying "give the money to the NHS" or something similar.
I can't believe the number of people that fell for this. Nothing tugs the heart strings more than giving something to the NHS and helping the underpaid nurses etc. But I knew that the government would never give the money that they saved from being an EU member to the NHS. That was not going to happen in a million years!
ย
Imposing a ยฃ100 million fee on gaming companies is a no-brainer, as it makes them take responsibility for the problems they create. It's only fair that they chip in to help with the issues that come with gambling, especially online operators.
That 100 million seems like a whole lot and i don't really get it. Is it 0.4 and 1 percent of sales or a 100 million falt out or is the 100 million the amount they're looking to generate from the new levies yearly. Cause the majority of companies don't necessarily make that amount in sales yearly.
@graham I'ld strike out UK and just leave government. The government anywhere are never honest with the people who placed them there to represent them, they lie like no man's business and there's always some hidden nuance when they manage to speak a word of truth. Its no suprise though, the politicians are usually charismatic and smooth talkers bereft of any soul. That's why they were able to con people to vote them in the first place. We the populace need to get better at choosing our reps and stop falling for their cheap lies and scams.
@facebook-skibidirizz We have a responsibility to choose better leaders cause we put them there in the first place. But most of the society doesn't even vote when it comes to elections. So a realtivelyย smaller percentage ofย people decide for the whole populace.
@ishtar I am sure you are right but I can only really speak about the UK government. Having traveled the world fairly extensively I will agree that there is often a distrust of the government of the country by its people. I am not sure that this perception will ever change. If governments and politicians continue to lie then people are not going to trust them - it's that simple!
