I stumbled upon this article online. I think gambling problems are really serious, it not only affects the life of the gamblers but also affects the lives of the people around them. I hope none of us fall in this kind of addiction.
Gambling addiction is a very serious problem which is why I focused so much on my self-discipline and recommend that everyone here does the same. A lot of these problems stem from people being unable to stop gambling - even when they are in big trouble.
This guy must have been very desperate to steal stock from his employer by abusing his position. Some people will go to any lengths to fund their gambling habit so please be aware of this and make a commitment to always be in control. If I didn't have a bet for a few days in a row it wouldn't bother me at all. But the guy in the article probably couldn't handle that at all.
Gambling addiction has destroyed lives and killed people. I hope everyone here does it knowing the losses and consequences. It should be done in limits and for addicts proper rehabilitation should be encouraged
Whoa! 😳.
I watch a lot of crime documentaries and most of them especially where money is involved almost always have a gambling addiction attached to them. To be fair though, gambling does require one to develop a high level of self control and discipline because it's so easy to slip. The thrill that comes from winning fuels greed while the desperation that comes from losing fuels more desperation. Making it an extremely fine line to walk. Moderation is key.
You would think these things only happen in fiction but oh heavens, people actually do it in real life and even crazier
@kayden48 A harmful addiction indeed.
Operators need to do more to protect the consumers and whilst regulation in some jurisdictions has improved the situation, they ultimately have a duty of care.
Should not be a problem for people with self control 🙄
@arniebaes Totally agree but self control can easily go out of the window when it comes to the excitement of gambling.
@lewisw I am in favor of operators doing more about gambling addiction. There is a lot being done already - what would you like to see happen to provide more protection for gamblers?
@graham I agree 100%. There are lines, which must not be crossed. My dad had a colleague, who stole from his sister's savings only to place bets on soccer. He did returned the money once he won, but the line has already been crossed. If you manage to commit something like this once, the next time will feel much easier.
@graham Totally agree and its not just to gambling, addiction as a whole that's why they're an addict in the first place. It's more so worse off for persons with an addictive personality.
@ray Real life inspires fiction so most of these things happen and more. You just need to to watch some crime docs that feature gambling and u'd see humans would do crazy things when btw a rock and hard place.
If you have minimal self control, lack discipline or have got an addictive personality, gamblings unfortunately not for you cause you could find urself in a messy situation sooner rather than l8r. Anti addiction policies by the companies can only go so far.
@graham The same level of effort applied as limiting successful bettors, for starters!
Once you loose self-control, everything you do is a mess. So, it's not really an intrinsic problem of this field. But it's the players inability to take control of his emotions.
