I became curious on what are the causes of gambling addiction when I read a post in this forum about a Redditor who gambled away 800K. So I did my own research and found out that 'gambling' works like a drug as it stimulates the dopamine-driven reward system in human brains. For context, dopamine plays a role in our ability to experience pleasure as a component of the brain's reward system. You can read more here.

One can definitely get addicted, considering the dopamine release when one wins a bet. So, I always say this; try to control your emotions. Viz. don't grieve too much when you loose and don't get too excited when you win.ย

When you gamble and win ur Braine gives off the same dopamine rush for many as when you take drugs. Once your brain gets that rush it wants more and more.

The highs and lows.

Have you ever bet on a horse racing? It gets your adrenaline pumping and I imagine many addicts crave that feeling.

The other problem stems from chasing losses...

You get dopamine from every exciting activity you do, so is eating pizza an addiction? I don't think so.

Winning releases endorphins, more wins = more endorphins.

It makes sense... Gambling can really mess with your brainโ€™s reward system, like a drug. Itโ€™s scary how something that seems fun can spiral so quickly. Dopamine is no joke!

It is designed in a way to stimulate our dopamine receptors and probably also adrenaline probably making people want to chase the feeling more and more. Like a drug

@facebook-skibidirizz agreed. Greed and revenge will see even the most professional gamblers spiraling.

Gambling can easily become addictive when people let their egos get in the way. If you think youโ€™re always going to win, itโ€™s easy to keep betting even when things arenโ€™t going well.

It definitely stems deeper than we all usually know. Once someone gets the taste of how the brain's reward system works, it does get addicting especially if it involves money, which is a crucial part of our everyday living and survival.ย
